Last week, I shared The Basics of SEO, and this week, I’m sharing why podcasters should know about SEO.
Podcasting within itself has a learning curve, and as a podcasting coach, I help you navigate all of that. I’m also here to help you grow and market your podcast, and knowing SEO will help you do just that.
In the previous post, I shared how I learned SEO while solely blogging, but now those skills have transferred to my online business and podcast. This is one of the reasons why podcasters should know about SEO; it’s a timeless skill. Even if you discontinue your podcast and shift to something else online, you’ll still need SEO skills and knowledge to market your next project.
Alright, let’s go through the other seven reasons why podcasters should know about SEO!

1. Visibility
SEO is all about discoverability online. Using relevant keywords in your podcast title, show notes, show descriptions, and even blog posts will help your podcast rank in the search engines. This will make your podcast more visible to potential listeners, who search for relevant topics!
2. Wider Audience Reach
Podcasting helps you reach a wider audience, a worldwide reach, and SEO strategies expand on that. I’ve seen podcast show notes with one to two sentences, and that’s not going to help your podcast grow or reach your target audience. You need to know SEO to implement an SEO strategy to reach a broader audience.
3. Competitive Advantage
So, speaking about the podcasts with only one to two sentences in their show notes, you’ll have a competitive advantage because the hosts aren’t utilizing SEO. This allows you and your show to stand out from the others.
People are already saying that the podcasting industry is becoming saturated. I don’t think that’s the case because of how many podcasters quit in the beginning, so you’ll definitely want to stand out from the other podcasts in your category.
4. Long-Term Traffic
Podcasting and SEO are what I like to call evergreen marketing strategies. Because their shelf life is endless, unlike short content like Reels, YouTube Shorts, TikTok videos, etc., your podcast episodes will be searchable for years to come. This then generates long-term traffic.
Think about it—how often do you search for something on Google and get an article from three or four years ago? It’s because the content is still relevant to what you searched for—the same happens when you utilize SEO for your podcast!
When starting a podcast, you’re in it for the long game, which is another reason why SEO is important.
5. Improve User Experience
By reading last week’s post, you learned that one of the basics of SEO is user experience. If you are starting a podcast or you’re in the beginning stages of your podcast, you should consider either starting a website solely for your podcast or adding your podcast to your current website.
This helps with visibility, audience reach, and the long-term traffic we’ve already discussed. Knowing SEO will improve your listeners’ user experience when they land on your podcast website. This then leads to increased retention and subscriber growth. Win, win, win!
6. Monetization Opportunities
If you want to monetize your podcast with sponsorships and partnerships, you must prioritize SEO. The higher your rank on search engines and the more traffic your podcast website generates, the better your chances of landing sponsorships and partnerships.
You can also use Google AdSense to earn money from ads on your podcast website. But again, to gain traffic, you need to understand SEO.
7. Content Repurposing
As stated above, SEO strategies are for online discoverability, and this applies to blog posts, videos, and social media. With your podcast, you can repurpose your content on other platforms and still use SEO strategy to reach your target audience!
Don’t work harder, work smarter! 😉
In Conclusion
Alright, podcasters, I gave you eight reasons why you should know about SEO! In addition to those eight reasons, I want to tell you this – knowledge is key to success. The more you know, the more you grow; there is nothing wrong with learning and obtaining new skills.
