Today’s guest is Marta Spirk, author of The Empowered Woman and a Brazilian immigrant who moved to the U.S. at 23, nine months after having her triplets. Marta has worked as a freelance court interpreter and is now a visibility strategist and recording artist with two published books and a podcast. Her passion for learning English was fueled by her exposure to music during childhood, which led to various achievements, including singing the national anthem at a Nuggets game.

Upon moving to the U.S., Marta faced cultural differences, particularly around domestic responsibilities, which were different from those in Brazil. Adjusting to these changes proved challenging, highlighting contrasts between American and Brazilian customs. A return visit to Brazil brought mixed emotions as she navigated family dynamics and committed to overcoming challenges in the US.

A Love for Language and Culture

Marta’s story begins in Brazil, where her passion for the English language was sparked at a young age by the music of the 60s and 70s. Despite inadequate English education in her homeland, a dedicated teacher opened her eyes to American culture, fueling her drive to master the language. By the young age of 14, Marta was teaching English herself, demonstrating a remarkable talent and enthusiasm for learning.

She eventually became an interpreter for American pastors visiting Brazil. Marta met her future husband at a conference in the U.S., setting in motion a cross-continental love story that would eventually lead her to American soil.

Navigating New Beginnings

Moving to the U.S. presented its own set of challenges, as Marta adjusted to cultural differences, especially around domestic roles. A return visit to Brazil, where she gave birth to triplets, highlighted the contrasts between her two homes. Yet, despite personal and familial challenges, Marta remained resilient and committed to her American journey.

Embracing Entrepreneurship – The Empowered Woman’s Path

With the desire to balance her role as a parent and professional, Marta turned to entrepreneurship. In 2016, she ventured into network marketing with Beachbody, aligning her business pursuits with her religious values. This endeavor opened doors to speaking and writing, and with encouragement from a coach, Marta published her first short book – The Empowered Woman. Her storytelling, enriched by her podcasting skills, focuses on mindset and the power of support, urging others to chase their dreams with determination.

Achieving the American Dream

In Marta’s words, achieving the American Dream requires patience, action, and an appreciation for the journey. Her story is a powerful reminder that dreams can indeed become reality with curiosity and courage.
