Are you thinking about using social media as a marketing tool for your podcast? If so, today, I would like to provide you with a social media strategy for podcasting.

There are different ways you can market your podcast. I have one available if you would like a list of 30 different ways to market your podcast! But one of the most popular ways is marketing on social media.

It seems like whenever someone mentions marketing nowadays, the first thought that comes to mind is social media. And it’s because social media has changed how we do many things. It’s changed how we communicate, stay connected, and even entertain ourselves. We can use social media to share our message with as many people as possible. So, social media is a great way to market your podcast.

Let’s get started with the strategy!

1. Create a New Page for Your Podcast

It doesn’t matter which platform you’re thinking about using on social media; I recommend you start a new page specifically for your podcast, and here’s why. Your current followers may not necessarily be your ideal audience. Also, the algorithm is based on your current content; if your podcast is about a different topic than you’re currently posting about, the algorithm may not know what to do with your post.

TikTok is the only exception to this because TikTok’s algorithm is based on each video, not the whole page. Which is why you can post about different topics on one page on TikTok, but for everywhere else, especially Instagram, it’s best to have a page dedicated to the podcast.

This is just the start of the social media strategy for podcasting.

2. Use a Content Calendar

I won’t get tired of saying it: there are two keys to success for podcasters: organization and planning. A content calendar is one of the best ways to plan ahead. You can use this to plan your podcast and social media content.

By using a content calendar, you plan what topics to post on social media and the day you’ll post them. And when it comes to your podcast, you’ll plan what episodes you’ll promote on what week or day. You can also plan what type of post you’ll create, whether that’s video, image, graphic, etc., and this way, you aren’t thinking about what to create the day of and stress yourself out.

You can find a content planner in the Podcast Starter Kit in my Stan Store. The podcast kit has everything you need to get organized and stay organized in your podcasting journey!

3. Figure Out Where Your Audience Is

Your podcast isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay; you don’t want it to be. But depending on your target audience will determine which social media platform they are actively using (e.g., Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok).

If you aren’t sure which platform your audience is on, you can do the following: create an account for each and do a monthly analytics check to see where you’re having more engagement. Next, check which type of content is working and which isn’t. For example, which kind of post, graphics, or video has the most attraction.

4. Consider Creating a Website

Your website for your podcast serves as a central hub for your podcast. You can guide listeners to your website directly from your social media posts, and they can listen to your podcast on your website. You can also create blog posts for each episode to drive traffic from search engines to your podcast. If this is an approach you’d like to take – send me an email at heidy@heidydelacruz.com because this is a service I offer to podcasters.

5. Engage With Your Audience

Have you heard the concept “post and ghost”? Yeah, don’t do that. When you post on your social media accounts, you want to ensure you are engaging with your audience by liking comments, responding to comments, sending direct messages, responding to direct messages, and sharing poll results. Etc.

The only platform you can actually post and ghost is Pinterest, but that’s a topic for another post. Make sure to engage with your audience because, at the end of the day, you want to build a community around your podcast.

6. SEO Optimization

Podcasters need to know the basics of SEO because it is how everything is found in the online world. (If you are needing to learn the basics of SEO, check out my Intro to SEO Guide in my Stan Store). And it’s important that your social media pages are optimized for relevant keywords that apply to your podcast. Also, that your posts are optimized for relevant keywords that apply to the podcast episode.

Make sure to use searchable captions and descriptions to improve discoverability within your posts.

7. Consistent Branding

Since you’re creating a page specifically for your podcast, make sure that you stay consistent with your podcast branding. The best practice would be to use your podcast cover art as your profile picture or at least on your page banner. For your posts or video covers, use your branding colors. This is important for marketing purposes, and you want to let your listeners know that once they see those colors, they’re associated with your podcast, aka brand identity.

Conclusion

Creating a social media strategy for podcasting will help you have success in marketing your podcast. Social media is a powerful tool for marketing, but you want to stay consistent. And with this strategy, you’ll be able to make a plan and remain consistent. Planning and organization are the keys to a successful podcast! Remember that.
