Today let’s talk about how to pitch yourself to podcasts.
If you’re new to podcasting and want to increase your listeners, you can try being a guest on other podcasts. By being a guest on other podcasts, you will gain visibility, you can share your story and expertise, and showcase your thought leadership in your industry.
The host should include your website and social media links in the episode’s show notes. But you can always give them the link to your podcast as well. This will help drive listeners to your show.
How to Pitch Yourself to Podcasts
Today, I am sharing an email template that you can use to pitch yourself to podcasts. You can copy and paste straight from this blog post, or you can use the Google document and save it. You’ll need to change a few lines to make it relevant to the podcast you’re pitching.
Lastly, before you pitch yourself to a podcast, make sure:
- It’s a podcast that accepts guests because not every show does.
- Listen to a few episodes.
- Make sure your message aligns with the podcast.
- And it’s an active podcast – check when was the last time they published an episode.
Alright, here’s the template.
The Template to Pitch Yourself to Podcasts
Hello [podcast host name],
I listened to your most recent podcast episode with [Guest name if applicable or episode name]. I found out about the episode from [where you found it or who recommended it]. [Next, write two or three key takeaways you got from the episode.]
I am reaching out to let you know that the message from that episode resonated with me, and I would love to be a guest on your podcast; however, I’m not sure how your process works.
My name is [Your name], I probably should have started with that, and I am [list a few things, mom/dad,wife/husband, business owner, podcaster, etc.]
My podcast is called [your podcast name] (include a link to your podcast), where I speak with [who are typically your guests on your show and what you talk about].
The mission with the podcast is [if you have a mission or goals for your podcast, write them here].
I also own [your company or business] (include the link to your website), where I help [who are your clientsand how you help them with]. My goal is [the goals you have for your clients].
The value that I can provide for your audience is [what you will talk about, why that would bring value totheir audience, what experience you have that makes you the best person to give this message].
Please let me know if I am a good candidate for your podcast; I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you so much.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
Key Things to Remember When Pitching Yourself to Podcasts
Remember that you can customize this template to your own words. It is just a template to get you started on your pitch, but it has important elements needed to get podcast hosts interested in having you on as their guest.
As a podcast host, I receive email pitches to be a guest on my show, but my podcast is very niche. On my show, I speak with immigrants, and I know when a pitch was provided without listening to my show. Don’t do this! Please listen to the show before – being a guest on a podcast should be mutually beneficial.
With Love, Heidy
