I recently received a client inquiry about relaunching her podcast. During the consultation call, we outlined a 2-month roadmap for her podcast relaunch strategy. She wasn’t rebranding; she was launching again after taking almost six months off her show. Two things I want to highlight before we jump in:
- I am excited that she came back to podcasting because, usually, after podcasters take a break, it’s hard for them to start again.
- She took some time off to care for her mental health, and I applaud her for that because, yes, we want to stay consistent when it comes to podcasting, but not at the expense of our mental health.
Today, I want to share the podcast relaunch strategy with you, in case you are in a similar situation and would like to relaunch. Or you could save this for future reference if you do need to take an extended break. This two-month plan will help you build momentum, reconnect with your audience, and come back stronger than ever.
First Month: Prep & Hype
Week 1 – Audit and Strategy
You need to start with a solid foundation, and to achieve this, you should audit your previous episodes. Take a look at what worked previously and what didn’t.
If you need to update your podcast description, cover art, and episode formats, this would be the time to do that.
Next, you’ll set your relaunch date, preferably six weeks from when you start this, to give you ample time to execute everything.
Lastly, brainstorm 6 to 8 episodes for your return. Week one is also a good time to check in with yourself: Is your podcast still aligned with your mission? Do you need to make any shifts in your message or target audience?
Week 2 – Production Begins
Okay, it’s time to dust off the mic and get recording! It’s ideal to record three to four episodes before your launch date.
If necessary, update your intro and your music. Create a new show notes template to reflect the updated tone or focus. And if you’re switching podcast hosts, make sure to resubmit to directories.
Week two is also the time to start editing teaser clips and audiograms for promotion.
Week 3 – Social Media & Email Prep
It’s time to announce your comeback!
Plan out a 30-day content calendar for social media and start drafting your “I’m back” email for your email list. Next, you’ll want to start designing your graphics, which will announce your return and tease upcoming episodes. If you’re going to take it a step further, book a branding photoshoot for the relaunch.
Write your 1-minute trailer episode teasing what is coming! And remember, you have the option to share as much or as little as you’d like with your audience about your extended break. However, keep in mind that vulnerability is a form of strength.
Week three is when you need to start showing up before publishing your first full episode.
Week 4 – Teasers & Countdown
Consider this week your “soft launch” week. You will publish your updated trailer episode, start a countdown (e.g., 7 days, 5 days, etc.), and reach out to past guests and see if they would like to collaborate with you on sharing your relaunch!
Take a step further and record and post behind-the-scenes content to build excitement. People love to see behind the scenes when you’re creating something.
Continue talking about your show, what’s coming, and let your audience know when to tune in. Keep that momentum going!
Month 2: Launch & Grow
Week 5 – Launch Week! *Cue Confetti*
IT’S FINALLY LAUNCH WEEK!
This week, you will release three episodes on the launch date. You can go live on social media or record a quick video to share the news with your followers. Send the direct link to your email subscribers so they can listen. Post daily on social media, including episode clips, quotes, and graphics you’ve created. Also, ask your community to subscribe, review, rate, and share the show.
This week is all about visibility and getting the word out!
Week 6 – Keep The Momentum Going
Now it’s all about staying consistent and connected. This week, you should release episode four and continue your publishing schedule. Continue sharing your episode clips, quotes, and behind-the-scenes content. Start reviewing your analytics to identify what is working and what is not. And send out a weekly email with takeaways and episode links. You can also share comments, feedback, and reviews you receive from your listeners.
Remember to engage with your audience.
Week 7 – Grow Your Audience
You can grow your audience by cross-promoting with other podcasters and creators, running a small giveaway or challenge to encourage shares, and asking questions or running polls in your Instagram stories to get feedback.
This week, you will release episode five to stay consistent and on schedule. Brainstorm ideas on how to reach new listeners and strengthen your community.
Week 8 – Reflect & Adjust
Alright, you made it to the end of month two, and it’s time to reflect on all you’ve accomplished thus far. Take time to celebrate your successes, and also assess what is working and what needs improvement.
One way to gain deep insight is to survey your audience. You can create a Google survey form or use SurveyMonkey and send the link to your email subscribers. From here, you should plan your next two months of episodes.
Relaunching is more than just posting again—it’s a chance to reset your rhythm, reconnect with your “why,” and rebuild a show you love creating.
Final Thoughts
Taking a break doesn’t mean you’ve failed—it means you’re human. Whether your time away was planned or necessary for your wellbeing, your return is something worth celebrating. Relaunching your podcast with a plan provides the clarity and momentum you need to succeed in the long term.
Take this plan, adjust it to fit your timeline, and, most importantly, have fun with it. Your voice, your message, and your presence still matter. Welcome back to the mic!
And as always, if you have any questions or would like me to guide you through the relaunch process, let’s schedule a consultation call.
With Love, Heidy
