Why You Should Hire a Podcast Coach

As a podcast coach, I can attest to the transformative power of hiring a podcast coach. Looking back on my podcasting journey, I realize the immense personal benefits I could have reaped from the guidance of a coach. While I pride myself on my ability to navigate uncharted territories, I understand that not everyone shares this trait. By seeking the guidance of a coach from the outset, I could have saved a significant amount of time and energy and perhaps even achieved my goals more efficiently.

Even though some coaches aren’t so great and just want money, there are a lot of good coaches out there who genuinely want to guide you and help you reach your goals. For example, I understand that launching a podcast isn’t hard – so a course isn’t really needed, but when you aren’t familiar with something or are trying something new, the wise thing to do is to talk to someone who’s doing what you want to do or hire a coach.

Today, I will provide ten reasons you should hire a podcast coach. Five if you’re looking to start a podcast. And five reasons why you should hire a podcast coach if you’re already a seasoned podcaster.

Expert Guidance

Podcast coaches have worked with multiple clients, have their own show, and are in the industry. They will provide expert advice on all aspects of podcasting, from concept development to launch and growth strategies. And if you’ve watched my masterclass on launching a podcast, you know there are many aspects of podcasting. But a coach will guide you through it all.

Technical Knowledge

One of the most common questions I see online for aspiring podcasters is about technology. What equipment does one need for a podcast, and what microphone should they invest in? A podcast coach will guide you through all those technical questions.

When helping a client launch their podcast, I help with equipment selection, which platforms to use for recording, how to edit, and publishing. I want to ensure my clients feel comfortable, confident, and knowledgeable about every aspect of the podcast journey.

Saving Time

As I mentioned, having a coach initially would have saved me so much time. With a coach, you can avoid common mistakes and save time by learning best practices from the start. Also, it saves time researching online and being overwhelmed with all the different answers. That happened to me. The time you should invest is researching a good coach.

Networking Opportunities

Seasoned coaches have established networks and other business owners they recommend for different services. As an aspiring podcaster, you’ll soon realize all the parts it takes to assemble a solid podcast. And if you have the resources, you’ll be able to outsource some of the work so you can focus on your lane of genius. This means your podcast coach can recommend you to other service providers.

For example, one of my clients wanted to create a website alongside her podcast. So, I recommended her to the website designer who did my website. My client set up a meeting and eventually agreed to work with the web designer. If she had wanted to start this podcast on her own, she would be researching how to launch a podcast and trying to figure out how to create a website for her podcast; that’s too much. Now, all she has to focus on is the steps to get the podcast together and the topics she wants to talk about.

Your Podcast Coach Will Set You up for Long-Term Success

Many people start a podcast, but only some stick with it. The percentage of people who don’t make it past the 10th episode is too high because they don’t plan ahead, aren’t organized, and realize podcasting is too much for their schedule. With a podcast coach, you’ll be set up for long-term success, meaning you’ll be able to podcast for years.

For example, with each client I’ve worked with, I’ve ensured that their publishing schedule or how frequently they will release an episode works for their schedule. I don’t force them to create a weekly podcast if they don’t have the time to do it. The focus of podcasting should be quality content and consistency. Staying with it in the long run is what is going to bring you success. And success is different for each podcaster.

Let’s move on to those of you who already have a podcast but are considering hiring a podcast coach. Here are five reasons why you should.

Creative Support and Content Strategy

If you’ve been podcasting for a while and are running into a dry spell where you cannot think of ideas or topics to discuss, a podcast coach can help you. Coaches can help you develop a content strategy that aligns with your goals and attracts your target audience. Also, a podcast coach can help you brainstorm ideas, structure your episodes, and maintain creativity throughout your podcasting journey.

Lastly, suppose you’re not seeing growth within your podcast. In that case, it’s probably time to change your strategy and structure. A podcast coach can provide a fresh perspective and constructive criticism to help improve your content and delivery.

Crisis Management

Oh man, just like everything else, there will be hiccups in your journey. But having a podcast coach on your side will help you navigate any crises, challenges, or setbacks that you have based on their experiences.

I cannot tell you the times I wish I had someone to lean to when things came up with my podcast. But as a one-woman show, I have to put out my own fires.

Podcast coaches will stay updated with the latest trends, news, and changes happening in the podcasting world. This way you don’t have to. You already have so much on your plate that staying up with the trends is something you don’t have to worry about.

Analytics and Metrics

If you’ve been podcasting for a while and haven’t met some analytical goals, a podcast coach can help you analyze your analytics and make data-driven decisions for your podcast.

Although I’m not a fan of being number-driven when it comes to podcasting, however, I do understand metrics are important when it comes to knowing how well your podcasting is performing. One thing to remember is that numbers are slow in the beginning, which is why I’m big on starting with knowing your goal for the podcast.

Personal Development

There’s a lot you learn about yourself as a podcaster. With every project, you develop personally and professionally. With a podcast coach, you can enhance your skills as a host. You can improve your public speaking skills, interviewing techniques, and storytelling skills.

Lastly, if you are stuck with your podcast and aren’t sure which direction to take, working with a podcast coach can help you get unstuck and bring back the excitement of your podcast!
