Word for 2023!

Picture from Canva

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope you brought in the new year surrounded by loved ones or exactly how you wanted to. I cannot believe it’s 2023, and I’m writing my blog post about my word of the year. I swear, every year goes by faster and faster. (And I probably write that EVERY SINGLE YEAR LOL.)

Last year’s word was growth. I wrote that I wanted to grow in my career, which I did (check), in motherhood (adjusting to being a mom of two), and in my writing. And if you read my recap of 2022, I feel like I did a lot of growth last year. So, this year – it makes sense that God gave me the word discipline.

Here are the three areas where I’m going apply discipline this year.

My Health

So, after having my son, it’s been a struggle to stay consistent in trying to lose the baby weight. I know that losing weight, in general, is hard work, but I’ve never had to do that in my life before because I’ve always been skinny. Even after having my daughter, since I had her so young, the weight came right off. This is the first time I’ll have to work to lose weight, and it’s all new to me.

I want to be consistent in working out, and it’s not only for losing weight but to be healthier too. I would like for it to be my lifestyle. My biggest problem is not being consistent. I’ll start working out, do it for like a week or two, and then I’ll just stop. So, this year, I want to be disciplined in working out.

Business/Podcast

Did you know I have a business? Probably not because I’m not very good at promoting it, but I do. I provide writing services to small businesses (newsletter, social media, blog posts, show notes for podcasts, etc.) And I help podcasters launch and manage their podcasts. (Official name of my business is coming soon).

So, in this new year, I want to be disciplined in growing my business. Last year I did a few networking events, so I’ll continue to do that but also, I need to promote my business better. If you want to start a podcast, send me a message, and let’s talk.

With my podcast, I’ve been consistent, and I definitely want to continue to grow. Eventually, it would be nice to have my own podcast studio and have guests come and do the interviews in person.

Finance

Okay, for the past few months, I’ve been reading finance books, listening to audible books, and learning as much as I can about investing, budgeting, and savings. Hubby and I have been working on getting our finances together and being more financially literate. So, for this new year, I want to be disciplined with my money. Our biggest goal is to get out of debt (it’s so easy to get into debt, but such a hassle to get out of it). We have set a plan to pay off debt, and I want to stick to it.

My biggest problem is seeing events happening, and I want to go to all of them. And I want to buy all the books! And I want to travel, and I want to make all these memories with my family. I want to do everything at once and right now because life is short, LOL. But then we get into more debt, and it’s a cycle every single year.

But this year will be different! At the end of the year, I will write that they are debt free! 🙂

Word for 2022!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

It’s 2022! Can you believe it? It feels like the older I get, the faster time goes.

I hope everyone reading this brought in the New Year with their special loved ones and/or family! 🙂

Last year my word of the year was Intentional. I explained how I wanted to be intentional with the time I spent with God, reading the word, praying, etc. And this year, I prayed, and the word that kept coming up was Growth!

Here are the areas I want to focus on growing within 2022.

Career

I have worked in the Revenue Cycle for about eight years now, and I’ve had many positions throughout my career. Like primary care biller, home infusion biller, office manager, collection specialist, and team lead for collections team. Back in 2020, I achieved my professional coding certificate through AAPC. I want to work as a medical coder in the hospital I currently work at, and this year I’m hoping to achieve this. After having a few years of coding experience under my belt, I would like to be a professor and teach medical billing and coding, but that is a long-term goal.

Motherhood

Now that my son is here, I have to adjust to being a mother of two. This year I want to focus on growing into a better mother for both my kids. We always have room to grow because we constantly make mistakes; it’s part of the journey. Motherhood is not easy, but it’s so rewarding that it’s worth all the trouble.

Writing

I truly enjoy blogging, and I’ve read plenty of articles/stories about how people make money from their writing. This year, I would like to bring in an income from my writing/blog. I’ve researched becoming a freelance writer, and I have an online writing portfolio. So, the next step would be to reach out to potential clients, brands, and small businesses to write for them. I did a little freelance work back in 2020 on Upwork, but I wasn’t consistent with it. This year, it’s time to change that. I am also looking to connect with local writers in my area and collaborate with more bloggers.

Personal

I will always strive to be a better wife, believer, mother, and all-around person. To do this, I invest in myself by attending conferences, reading, networking, and learning from my mistakes.

This year I will continue to be intentional with my time with God.

I will continue to learn in the areas I want to grow in. And I will continue to ask God to guide me in being the best wife and mother I can be. I will invest more in my physical health because this helps all other areas of my life.

Do you have a word for this year? If so, share it with me! I love connecting with my followers and subscribers. 🙂

With Love,

Heidy

Be Intentional With Your Time

We are the generation of multitasking, especially women. We’ve always had to juggle much and wear different hats. And last year, 2020, don’t even get me started, that was a game-changer. But for the new year, I don’t want to be a multitasker; I want to focus on one thing at a time and do it well. You see, when you multitask, your attention is divided, so you’re not focused, and little things can slip up. This is why, for the new year, I want to be intentional with my time.

Recently I’ve realized that no matter what I’m doing, I like to do only that. For example, if I’m watching TV, I’ll focus only on watching TV and not be on my phone or reading something. Or if I’m working or writing, I like to focus just on the task at hand because I want to do the best job possible; I cannot do that if I’m also focused on doing something else. Also, anything that I’m doing, I’m intentional with it, meaning there is a purpose behind it. Even things I like to do “for fun” are usually educational, like reading; I love reading about history, memoirs, literature, etc. And watching TV, I’m usually watching a documentary, or a documentary series, even podcasts; I love podcasts, but there is usually something that I get out of them while I’m listening to them. Simply put, I don’t like to waste time, LOL.

For the new year, one thing I want to be intentional with is my time with Jesus.

Lamentations 3 verse 25 through 28 says, “The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. It is good for a man to bear the yoke while he is young. Let him sit alone in silence, for the Lord has laid it on him, (NIV). I listen to the Bible in the morning, either while I’m getting ready for work or working, but I want to change that. I want to spend dedicated alone time with the word of God. I want to understand what I’m listening to and be able to hear God speak to me.

I submitted a devotional for a prayer journal, and the devotional was chosen to be in it. The journal is available for purchase on Amazon. It is a 52-week prayer journal, which I’m going to use starting this new year as part of my plan to be intentional with my time with Jesus. I also won a planner on an Instagram giveaway. It has a daily affirmation, prayer gratitude, prayer requests, scripture readings, and a devotional/reflection section, which I’m also going to use to be intentional with my time with Jesus.

My point is that I have a plan set to be intentional with my time in the spiritual aspect of my life. This is one of my goals for 2021! Is there a place in your life you are looking to be intentional? Do you have a plan or a goal you’d like to achieve? I’d love to hear about it and maybe even help. Let me know!

With Love,

Heidy
