Let’s talk about 10 benefits of having a podcast! A podcast is a powerful marketing tool if you have an online presence or business. For instance, use your podcast to share valuable insights about your industry, showcase your expertise, and connect with your audience personally. But I’m not here to talk to you about marketing – you can read more about marketing with podcasts here

For the past two years, I’ve been on this podcasting journey. And I’ve realized that there are many benefits to having a podcast. Of course, I’m biased, but honestly, I see many people online sharing their interest in becoming a podcaster. Still, the unknown, such as technical aspects, content creation, and audience engagement, holds them back. Because I see this often online, it is one of the reasons why I love sharing my journey online, hoping to encourage others to launch their shows.

So today, I’m sharing ten benefits of starting a podcast if you’re unsure about the idea. Of course, there are more than ten benefits, but for the sake of time, let’s stick with ten.

Builds a Personal or Brand Identity

Podcasting provides the ability to showcase your expertise, voice, and unique style. Showcasing your expertise will help build a distinct business and personal brand. Of course, like everything else, this takes time to build, but the more episodes you publish, the more your listeners will gain your trust. It’s a powerful feeling to know that your voice and experiences are reaching and influencing others.

Reach a Global Audience

Podcasts are listened to worldwide, and if you have an online business, you can help clients from all over the world; you’re not restricted to just your location. Because of the nature of my show, being able to reach an audience worldwide is one of my favorite things about podcasting. I talk to people from around the world, and my show has reached over 90 countries.

Establish Authority in Your Industry

This ties into building a personal and brand identity because when you publish episodes consistently, whether weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, you’re consistently sharing your insight, knowledge, and experience. Your consistent publishing positions you as an expert in your industry or niche, and as time passes, you’re building credibility and trust with your audience. And building credibility leads to people recommending your show when others ask about a podcast in your niche.

One of the best compliments I’ve received about my podcast is my compassion for sharing immigrants’ stories. I’ve been told I handle the topic well when it can sometimes be sensitive.

Engagement With Your Target Audience

Since podcasts are niche-based, they attract a specific audience. This audience is interested in your niche, which helps create a more engaged and loyal audience. The feeling of accomplishment that comes with building a community of listeners who are genuinely interested in your content is truly rewarding.

The Fifth Benefit of Having a Podcast – Curate Deep Connections

Podcasting is a very intimate way to connect with your audience because it’s just your voice and your audience’s ears. With consistent publishing episodes, your listeners will feel like they know you and that a relationship is growing with you as they follow your podcasting journey. The intimacy of podcasting helps curate a deeper connection with your audience compared to other media platforms.

Cost-Effective Marketing Tool

Using podcasts as a marketing tool for your business, products, or services is powerful and inexpensive. I’ve written about this before, but I’ll repeat it over and over again because you can start a podcast for free, be a guest on podcasts for free, and reach people from all over the world FOR FREE! The best thing about podcasts is the SEO optimization, so people can reach your content for years to come.

Increase Website Traffic

When you start your podcast, the best thing you can do is share it on your website and promote the episodes on social media to drive traffic back to your website. From there, people can check out your services and products and sign up for your email list!

Networking Opportunities

Podcasting opens a whole new world for networking. Whether you’re connecting with your guests or other podcasters, the opportunities for who you can meet are endless. I’ve met some incredible people from around the world because of my podcast. I’ve attended webinars, summits, conferences, and networking events because of my podcast. And now, almost three years into podcasting, I’m speaking at webinars and virtual summits – teaching others how to launch their own shows.

Even if you’re not looking to teach others about podcasting, your online business can expand due to the networking opportunities that podcasts bring. You never know who you’re going to connect with because it could be the person to help you elevate your business to the next level. So, let’s launch your show!

Monetize Your Podcast

Having a podcast can become another income stream or your sole income stream. I’ve met many full-time podcasters and those who use podcasts to bring clients for their businesses. There are various ways to monetize your podcast – so you can make money if your podcast will be a hobby, a side hustle, or an addition to your business!

SEO Optimization

I talk a lot about SEO and share about podcasting SEO (get my free podcasting SEO resource). Still, in this post, I’ll only say that podcasting provides excellent SEO optimization, and people will find you through podcasts. As a host, ensure your shownotes are optimized for SEO and include backlinks or turn every episode into blog posts. As a guest, ensure you provide links to the host so they can add them to their shownotes.

Conclusion to Benefits of Having a Podcast

I can barely think of any downsides to having a podcast—I usually just say how time-consuming it is because there’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work involved. But even that isn’t an issue if you truly believe in your message and the mission of your show.

So, if you’re considering starting a podcast, I say do it! There is more to gain than lose when it comes to podcasting, and the investment in the beginning is minimal—although our time is priceless, it’s worth it in the end.
